Okay, I’m really excited to share this. I’m a lover of sweets and this shake combines the chocolate-y, peanut butter-y, creaminess of a milkshake you really like with an extra protein kick. The components of this shake are protein powder, PB2, unsweetened almond milk, frozen banana, ice, and topped with whipped cream.
I like to enjoy this in the evening when I’m craving something sweet but know I need a little more protein for the day. You can use your favorite protein powder, use real peanut butter in place of PB2, swap the milk, leave out the banana and/or whipped cream if you’d like. I typically adjust the amounts depending on how much carbs and protein I want.
This recipe does require a really good blender. I use a ninja pulse blender that works great. The frozen banana provides a great creamy texture (like ice cream would) so make sure you have a frozen banana ready too. I only use 1-2 oz of banana for a single shake so a whole banana can be use to make several of these. Freeze bananas out of their peels in a ziplock bag that are really ripe. They provide extra sweetness!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein “milkshake”
1/2 scoop (25 grams) chocolate protein powder
2 tbsp (12 grams) powdered peanut butter (PB2)
1 oz frozen banana chunk (about 2 inches long)
2 oz unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice, about 1/4 cup)
2-4 ice cubes
Add almond milk and banana to blender and blend till smooth and creamy. Add the protein powder and powdered peanut butter and blend till completely mixed in. (You may need to stir it a few times. Blend for about 30 seconds. The blending helps to make it whipped and creamy.)
Last add the ice cubes. Start with 2 and blend. Add 1-2 more to get the desired texture. If you add too much you will end up needing a little more milk. Generally 2 ice cubes works well. Blend and stir. Blend again once it is all creamy for another 15-30 seconds for extra whipping!
Top with 2 tbsp of light whipped cream if desired.
