This has been my go to breakfast for the past week now, and it is definitely one that will be sticking around. I am a breakfast food lover, but during the week I want something that is filling, quick, and simple most of the time. When I evaluate a breakfast for the filling factor I like to look at protein. If I can get 15-20 g of protein at breakfast it usually helps to keep me full till lunch. I like that this meal is quick to make and that I can make it the night before to save even more time in the morning. Plus, a definite for all recipes… it has to taste good. Of course it does.
A lot of people are trying to get more protein, and an easy option is to use protein powder. I have used protein powder and most just don’t taste as good as I would like them to, or I question the ingredients, or the cost is ridiculous, or the texture is gritty. So this breakfast protein shake can provide the protein you want from the protein powder but with a great flavor, texture, and price. The ingredients are simple too!
The protein in this shake comes from 2 ingredients. The first will probably not surprise most- greek yogurt. The second one is a little more interesting- cottage cheese. Now don’t turn away. The cottage cheese add the extra protein and a great creamy texture when blended. Try it out!
Strawberry Protein Shake (without protein powder)
2 oz (1/4 c) plain almond milk ( or milk of choice)
4 oz (1/2 c) non fat vanilla greek yogurt
4 oz (1/2 c) low fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup frozen strawberries
Optional- dash of cinnamon, tablespoon flax seed, splash of vanilla extract
Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
